OUR STORY
1973
Paul & Wendy Young (Paul – a social worker and Wendy – an elementary school teacher) knew many children in Guelph would benefit from a unique day camp experience with a focus on the arts and a variety of other camp experiences. The Young’s believed all children, regardless of their unique and special needs, should have the opportunity to join in a summer camp adventure. After Rainbow Day Camp had several successful summers, they collaborated with the Association for Community Living, the Autism Society and Association for Children with Learning Disabilities and created a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors. The Board hired more staff with special needs expertise in order to move forward with a fully integrated program.
1978
Rainbow Day Camp became Rainbow Programmes for Children and became a registered charity.
Today
Rainbow has grown into a fully inclusive, non-profit summer camp that offers hundreds of children each year a fun and memorable camp experience.
Rainbow is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who works diligently all year in preparation for each summer, with the support of a year-round part-time Executive Director. The Board meets six times a year with Committee meetings as required. Committees of the Board include Finance and Nominations, with ad hoc committees in personnel, fundraising, public relations & marketing.

Rainbow gives children enough time to do things in their own way making fun part of every activity.

Rainbow builds on the strengths and abilities of each child in a non-competitive and active environment while ensuring the programs are safe, age-appropriate varied, and exciting.

Through a sense of belonging, Rainbow encourages children to play together while valuing the diversity and uniqueness of each other.
Be with CARING ADULTS – positive role models!
Rainbow provides an open environment where staff and volunteers nurture and care for children, promoting acceptance, tolerance and fun!
